Checklist before your child uses an AI app
Who creates the account? Parents should register; children should not sign up alone.
What data is collected from children? Names, photos, voice, location, and behavioral profiles deserve scrutiny.
Is there open AI chat? Unconstrained chat raises content and privacy risks.
Can you delete data? COPPA-aligned services explain parental rights to review and delete.
Is children's data sold? Look for an explicit 'we do not sell' statement.
Where is the privacy policy? It should be easy to find — not buried after checkout.
Red flags
No privacy policy or only a generic adult terms page.
Child self-registration with email and no parent gate.
Free-text chat marketed as 'AI tutor' without age bounds.
Vague answers about how conversations are stored or used.
